Alex Black – a catalog of unearned Montreal’s nooks, crannies and talents

A duplication of imagery and scale acts as a means of equating the objects and the subjects. A collection of Montreal’s creativity overlooked by the international fashion industry – Alex Black

Alex Black for Lampoon 25 – the Transparency Issue

Title: Scanning it’s like Roaring

The editorial gathers together pieces of inspiration found in Montreal’s nooks and crannies; from styling found in the students work archived at La Salle’s fashion school, to objects of intrigue hand crafted by local Montreal artists and street casting recommended via a network of friends. The project was done in collaboration with Lignes de Fuite as a mentorship space where recent fashion school graduates could involve themselves in the creative process and in the making of an editorial. Through that, the local community became a resource in sourcing everything and everyone

The use of the engulfing white studio space and scanning techniques creates an anthropological feeling in the documentation of these found objects. The duplication of imagery and scale acts as a system of equalizing subject matters, the objects and the subjects. The images are meant to feel like an archive, a catalog of the interesting creative outlets Montreal has to offer but are overlooked by the international fashion industry
