With a cinema evening under the stars, on Mount Calvarina, Pasqua celebrated the 2020 harvest – it will be remembered as the freshest vintage in the last 5 years
Despite the interruption of the normal course of human activities, the natural cycle of vineyards has not been interrupted. This year’s vintage will be remembered as the freshest in 5 years, thanks to a mild winter and a smooth spring with little rain. The flowering was regular and the vine has set perfectly; in Summer the relatively low humidity and the heat prevented mould and pathogens from attacking the vines, guaranteeing the health of the grapes, whose bunches have preserved colour and intense aromas.
Pasqua celebrated the 2020 harvest with an evening under the stars on Tuesday 8 September on Mount Calvarina, in the municipality of Ronca, near Verona. This is one of the largest volcanic buildings that remains as evidence of volcanic activities that have affected the Veneto area. The vineyards are located at an altitude of 600 metres on the slopes of the mountain. The particular climatic conditions are visible in the wines produced in this territory. Here one of the most famous Easter wines was born, the multivintage Hey French: You Could Have Made This But You Didn’t.
Pasqua set up a cinema among the rows of vines. The sky and the surrounding hills were the setting for the screening of the comedy Si muore solo da vivi ( You only die while alive), the debut film by La Scala director Alberto Rizzi in collaboration with K+ (a film studio also based in Verona). The film stars a man in his 40s who, between ups and downs, finds the courage to get back into the game and take a second chance in life – apparently summarizing the approach with which the challenges that this 2020 has so far reserved are to be faced.
For 95 years, the Pasqua winery has been one of the main producers of quality local Veneto and Italian wines and the standard bearer of Valpolicella in the world. The story of Pasqua Vigneti e Cantine dates back to 1925, when the first generation of the Pasqua brothers arrived in Verona with the aim of founding a company dedicated to the sale of wines from their native land, Puglia region. Starting from the sale of wines, they came to the foundation of a real winery. In a few years the company made a name for itself on the Italian wine scene with the acquisition of new vineyards in the Verona area.
In the sixties the second generation entered the company, which began to export their wines. The birth in the 80s of Cecilia Beretta, an agricultural company and avant-garde study centre for research on vines, grafts and vineyards, is a symbol of the continuous search for excellence. In the mid-2000’s the company made a substantial investment, proving how it was rooted in the territory, with a new winery and production facilities in San Felice, in the heart of its vineyards. With the entry into the company of the third generation, composed of Riccardo and Alessandro, the push towards foreign markets was strengthened, culminating in 2009 with the foundation of Pasqua Usa LLC in New York. In 2017 Pasqua acquired its own Chinese importer, founding Pasqua Asia Ltd based in Dalian. The company is currently present in 65 markets around the world.
