Ne dites pas non, vous avez souri – Intw Julien Pruvost

Resonating with a tradition started in the late Seventeenth century, which consisted in the sculpting of large decorative pieces celebrating religious figures

From a conversation with Julien Pruvost, Creative Director at Maison Trudon. Trudon candles are manufactured in France, in our Normandy ateliers. This has been the case for over 300 years. Our vessel is hand made in Italy. We use a centrifugation technic, which provides different details to every vessel – each one is tinted in the core as well. We use the same oils or molecules that can be found in fine fragrances.

Scented candles represent the vast majority of our productions. Combining complex fragrances with wax is a specialty on its own that requires a knowhow that did not exist the way we know it until the Nineties. We reinvented an art form that goes back to the Eighteenth century: the hand molding in wax of decorative pieces. At the moment, they come essentially in the form of wax busts. We developed a partnership with the French National Museum Organization. We have the exclusive rights to reproduce in wax certain references of their catalogue. This resonates with a tradition that started in the late Seventeenth century, which consisted in the sculpting of large decorative pieces celebrating religious figures or just decorative for either religious celebration or in more rare cases the venue of the king. Certain wax manufacturers had married their second, third or fourth daughter with a sculptor in order to bring artistic talent to the family business therefore providing a competitive edge. Religion (in its cultural and spiritual dimension), Royalty (in its cultural dimension), a sense of Revolution (in its cultural and symbolic dimension) – these are the inspirations – both with our classic size candle (270g) with the fragrances ErnestoAbd el Kader and Cyrnos.  We have been using a portion of recycled glass in our vessels since the beginning. This is almost standard in glass manufacturing. We hope to be able to incorporate higher levels in the future (more than 50%).
