The Roman jeweler Bvlgari celebrates life and beauty with the high-jewelry collection Barocko, telegraphing a message of hope and optimism in times of uncertainty. Characterized by curved lines and voluptuous shapes, the Baroque aesthetic is revisited through Bvlgari’s contemporary filter versatility, rewriting the rules of high jewelry design and manufacturing. For over 130 years, Rome has been musing the Bvlgari’s creations. As the collection name hints, Rome’s Baroque artistic and heritage fuses with the House’s spirit in Barocko, finding inspiration in the Eternal City of Rome.
Drawing inspiration from Rome’s Baroque landscape – the Fountain of the Four Rivers sculpted by Lorenzo Bernini and the church of Sant’ Agnese in Agone designed by Francesco Borromini, to the Horti Farnesiani complex on the Palatino hill and the bronze statue of Archangel Michael located on the top the Castel Sant’Angelo papal fortress -, the creations embrace the House’s eccentricity and sophistication in a balance of resplendence and refinement. «The artifacts play with light and shadow, are injected with a dynamic sense of movement and match preciousness with elegance», states Bvlgari. The incorporation of rare gems – unearthed around the globe by Bvlgari jewelry creative director Lucia Silvestri -, Baroque architectural motifs, the curved lines of 16th century’s decors, and variations of nature result in the balance of maximalism and essentiality, symbolling Bvlgari’s commitment to beauty and joy.
Colors and shapes of the pieces capture the softness and voluptuousness injected by Baroque artists, including Gian Lorenzo Bernini, into their sculptures. Requiring 500 hours to be completed, the ‘Serpenti Spell’ diamond bracelet-ring sparkles with the seduction of the snake, a motif in the Baroque aesthetic, and a symbol of the Bvlgari DNA. Artifacts such as the ‘Ruby Drapery’ earrings and rings play with white gold, diamonds and rubies, inspired by marble drapery. The ‘Sapphire Lace’ necklace combines platinum, diamonds, and Ceylon Blue Sapphires to create a texture, inspired by the Baroque lace fabrics. ‘Green Dream’, a necklace featuring five Colombian emeralds, part of ten gems that Bvlgari jewelry creative director Lucia Silvestri followed around the world for a year, can be combined with a bracelet and earrings, completing a set.
Echoing the opulence of peacock feathers, the ‘Peacock’ necklace showcases a combination of colors and stones, spanning from tanzanites and aquamarines to chrysoprases and emeralds. The wings of a bronze statue of Archangel Michael watching over the Eternal City inspired the design of the ‘Wings of Rome’ platinum necklace enriched with diamonds set to create three layers for a 3D effect. «With this collection, Bvlgari telegraphs a message of hope and optimism. Vibrant colors, light effects, shapes, and details convey a sense of joy and positivity, which spreads all over the world».
