Distorting and transforming compositions, a raw vision by Marije Seijn and Annie Van Noortwijk

Referring to Greek Olympic statues and mythology, photographers Marije Seijn and Annie Van Noortwijk aim to provide a window into another realm

Title: Pleione

In this series Marije Seijn visually explores the body’s physical strength as well as its sensual power.
Referring to Greek Olympic statues and mythology we aimed to provide a window into another realm.
Using elements of the images for the assembly of layered compositions.
And by distorting and transforming those, another worldly, dreamy but raw vision appeared.

Marije Seijn

Marije is an image maker with a bachelor in fashion design at the Rietveld Art Academy. Since 2017 she has been focusing on photography and collage work in which she plays with context and perspective by literally cutting layers away or adding them. Archetypical, figurative themes such as nature, nudes and flowers are often the starting point of her practice and serve as the building blocks for making semi abstract compositions.

Annie Van Noortwijk

Annie is a filmmaker and photographer graduated at Utrecht School of the Arts. With a fascination for color and composition she creates intimate and experimental imagery in which she questions themes like femininity and beauty standards. The two met in 2018, they recognised and admired each other’s use of theme, form and color in the different mediums they were working with.
