Lampoon / Diverso: the female gaze on sport has changed according to Florence Mann

In the south of France, the photographer follows the workouts of a rugby team – «I shot the girls both before and after training to reveal the effort on their body and faces»

Florence Mann shooting for Lampoon Issue 24

Rugby in South of France is religion – but as often in collective sport, the focus is always on the male teams. The girls playing rugby lack recognition. The diversity inside their own team is opposed to the prejudices people may have. The story is divided in two parts: the girls practicing their skills during their rugby training session and the girls dressed in their day outfits, hanging out around the rugby pitch. There is a link to the work of Anouk Kruithof called The Daily Exhaustion where she photographed herself after working out – I shot the girls both before and after training to reveal the effort on their body and faces.
