Nature and human body become one in Maddalena Arcelloni’s photoshoot

Relationship between nature and the human body

Presenting itself as a metaphor for mutual belonging, Maddalena Arcelloni depicts model Micah Walsh in combination with nature and its natural landscapes. Photographing the human form, Arcelloni explores its similarities, harmony and belonging with nature. The photographs of trees and land, alongside photographs of the male body, present «parallels and resemblances between respective patterns and shapes». Placing the images opposite each other, she depicts matching color ways, as well as similarities in textures and lines between the landscapes and figures. The photographs act as pictorial landscapes as the human body blends into them. With a focus on fashion, editorial and fine art photography, Arcelloni’s work is created through intermingling these genres which in turn is what aids her depiction of the human form and its presentation.

Inspired by the work of Man Ray and various other artists involved in the surrealist movement, Arcelloni uses surrealism as the background of inspiration behind her work, while exploring the physiques natural angles and proportions. She aims to take her audience on a visual journey, shifting perspectives through the lens. While the genres of photography and the unspoken elements of the human body are crucial to the inspiration of her work, she uses «fashion as a further element to play with and to create a different narrative». The photographer’s exploration of surrealism is showcased in her editorial works; body angles, proportions and shape further Arcelloni’s blending of the human and nature form.
