A quirky community garden, life in a seasonal town: New York, Rockaway Beach 91 st street. Capturing the diverse Youth Culture and showing new life and growth during times of Covid
Rockaway Beach, Daniel King
Rockaway Beach, a sandy shoreline with a nearly 9-kilometer boardwalk, is popular with families in summer for swimming, sunbathing, and sports such as volleyball and skateboarding. Seasonal kiosks sell pizza, arepas, and Italian ice cream, and bars with outdoor tables are always bustling. Surfing is possible year-round along the coast. The streets are lined with pastel-colored houses and condominiums, in many cases rebuilt after Hurricane Sandy in 2012, as well as residential buildings from the 1960s.
