Observing the valour of the tango, the final instalment of the filmic project S.W.A.L.K demonstrates how techniques developed in the Artisanal collection are artistically industrialised for ready- to-wear
A film by Nick Knight illuminating the ecosystem of Maison Margiela captures the essence of the Spring-Summer 2021 ‘Co-ed’ Collection by Maison Margiela, derived from Artisanal embroideries. The collection is created under the Recicla label, which symbolises the reuse of some selected garments brought back to life, denoting the up-cycling of authentic vintage finds through restorative and transformative processes. Beckoning change, the parallels of old and new are observed simultaneously as the heroic cutting founded in the anonymity of the lining, circular cutting reminiscent of wet drapery and a millefeuille of fabrics carry the trace of time of their layers, similar to the cathartic process of the tango, liberate the energy of the old, reinvigorating the cloth.
